Nicholas intensified more than anticipated before landfall and brought hurricane-force winds to the Texas coast. The 14th storm of the hurricane season made landfall near Sargent Beach, Texas, with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph. Significant impacts were isolated to coastal areas, and more inland locations experienced low-level wind damage such as downed trees and sign damage.
