KCC Event Brief - M7.2 Haiti Earthquake

On August 14, a M7.2 earthquake ruptured the Enriquillo-Garden Fault system near the 2010 M7 Haiti Earthquake. The rupture occurred around 10 km below the earth’s surface with an oblique thrust faulting mechanism. The 2021 event occurred in a less densely populated area than the 2010 earthquake although still caused widespread damage in western Haiti, affecting the cities of Les Cayes and Jeremie.
